Disposal Of Asbestos Cement - Where To Get Rid Of This Hazardous Waste
Any homeowner who decides to remove the asbestos cement from his or her home must then deal with the proper disposal after it has been removed from their home. All other items used during the removal of the asbestos cement that have become contaminated also need to be disposed of in the same way safely.
Disposal of asbestos cement should be handled much the same way as disposal of any other asbestos containing materials. Once it has been safely removed from its location, the disposal of asbestos cement requires either 6 mil polyethylene plastic sheeting or 6 mil asbestos disposal bags, depending on the size and amount, and duct tape to seal the packages for the disposal of asbestos cement.
If using asbestos disposal bags, the cement pieces need to be put into the asbestos removal bags in amounts light enough to keep the disposal bags from tearing. Then the removal bags should be sealed with duct tape, placed inside other asbestos removal bags, and sealed into those bags with duct tape.
If using 6 mil polyethylene plastic sheeting for the disposal of asbestos cement, which makes the most sense if the pieces of cement are rather large, the chunks need to be wrapped in two layers of 6 mil polyethylene plastic sheeting and sealed with duct tape.
Each package for the disposal of asbestos cement must be properly labeled to show that the package contains asbestos and that this is hazardous because of the dust. If you are using asbestos disposal bags this will already be printed on the bag. Each package also needs to have the name and address of the person removing the cement as well as the date the material was removed.
The final step is to take the bags and packages of the debris that require disposal and bring them to a landfill that accepts asbestos. You should be able to find a list on the internet of landfills that can be used for removing asbestos in your area. The disposal of asbestos cement is usually required to be done within 10 days of its removal from the building it came from. Source: Removeasbestosinc dot com
